After School

At a time when more attention and resources are being directed toward making a positive difference for at-risk youth, the inclusion of high-quality technology access and usage in neighborhood after-school programs can have a powerful added impact to what the after-school community is already contributing to children's lives.

Technology in after-school settings is beginning to yield promising results by improving students' academic achievement, job readiness and future income-earning prospects.

Despite technology becoming more prevalent, too few youth have access to well-planned and -implemented technology access and usage programs.  Many community organizations either don't have technology equipment or lack the trained staff and curricular experience to use technology effectively in after-school programs.

In addition, when seeking funding from public sources, community technology programs face many barriers, such as finding demonstrable ways to use technology to increase academic achievement, being located off campus and receiving grants directly instead of through a local educational agency.

To help after-school programs use technology effectively and to help community technology programs receive funding for their services, CCTPG advocates for after-school policies.
